WHO reference: underweight <18.5 · normal 18.5–24.9 · overweight 25–29.9 · obese ≥30.
Body Mass Index (BMI) relates your weight to your height to place you in a reference category. It is the fastest first signal about your weight, though it doesn't tell muscle from fat.

Frequently asked questions
How is BMI calculated?+
BMI is your weight in kilograms divided by the square of your height in metres (BMI = weight ÷ height²). For example, 70 kg and 1.75 m give a BMI of 22.9.
What BMI is considered healthy?+
Per the WHO, a BMI between 18.5 and 24.9 is normal weight. Below 18.5 is underweight, 25 to 29.9 is overweight and 30 or above is obese.
Is BMI reliable for athletes?+
Not entirely. BMI doesn't separate muscle from fat, so a very muscular person can read as 'overweight' without excess fat. For athletes, pair it with body-fat percentage.
